Vintage Chic with a Dash of Blue

Tuesday, May 22, 2012 0 comments

The combination of blue and white is so fresh and pretty.
In my opinion, it works best when it's just a splash of blue :-
perhaps a feature wall,
a painted piece of furniture,
a display of blue and white china
or some scatter cushions and a piece of art.
I think by having just a touch it gives blue a fresher, more up-to-date look.

For those on a limited budget wanting to decorate shabby chic style,
 here's a few handy tips:-
1. Less is more. Keep whatever you have simple.
2. Choose select items - a table, rug, chandelier as the centre pieces of your room.
3. Fresh flowers in separate bud vases add luxury and beauty.
4. Incorporate scented candles into the room - fragrance is important!
5. Mix and match white fabrics with different textures
6. Go flea market shopping and raid thrift stores to find inexpensive yet perfect accents for your home

A Pop of Colour

Saturday, April 21, 2012 0 comments

Today I am loving this energetic splash of colour.
It's happy, uplifting and gives these spaces an unexpected twist.
That aqua painted timber table makes for a very pretty, romantic setting
- perfect for a Sunday lunch or afternoon  tea.
Happy Sunday!

old fashioned typwriters
garden picked roses
and vintage suitcases.
Enjoy your day!

Faded Charms

Loving this romantic Sunday inspiration of having a lazy day and finding the time to:
write a letter (the old fashioned way)
pick some garden roses
indulge in some afternoon tea
cook the family a lovely Sunday lunch
find a quiet nook in the garden and
read my novel.

Happy Sunday!

I have jumped on the bandwagon and joined many of my fellow bloggers with having a bit of fun on Pinterest. I can tell you once you get going it's very addictive! It's a great place to collect ideas and find some inspiration. I have set up some social media buttons in my side bar so with a click off a button you can pop over to see what's new on my Country Style Pinterest board!

Vintage Florals

Tuesday, March 20, 2012 0 comments

For me, one of the most romantic visions of country living is country florals and quilted eiderdowns. I love the idea of French Amoires and old fashioned cupboards brimming with crisply laundered bedlinen, fluffy eiderdowns and patchwork quilts in assorted colours and patterns. Enjoy your day!

The Patchwork of Life

I love unexpected mixes of colours and patterns. As a designer, I like mixing old with new - modern sofas with antiques and vintage pieces. I also like to throw eclectic and exotic pieces into the mix to give things an unexpected twist ... perhaps a Moroccan lantern, a Chinese wedding chest or an African footstool. I am smitten with the image of the rustic table with the ultra modern Phillipe Starck Louis ghost chairs. A room always looks more interesting when it's little out of the ordinary!
